Im scared to go out in public...?

Question:
I get really nervous, and I feel really insecure when i have to go somewhere. My best friend moved at the beginning of the summer. We did everything together, and thats when i stopped going out of the house. I have other friends too, but I didn't talk to them all summer. They would call my house, and I would never answer because I got to scared to talk to them. Just recently, I talked on the phone with closer friend, and we were going to do something together but she is going out of state tomorrow. So I'm pretty much back to square one. I'm moving to a new state next week, and I have to make a trip to the mall sometime soon. I am absolutely devastated. I'm so scared to talk to someone, or for someone to recognize me, my hands are shaking just thinking about it. In a few hours I have to go to the computer store with my mom [I'm sixteen] to get my laptop fixed and I am dreading it, I'm so nervous. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any advice, tips or any help at all?

It sounds like you have agoraphobia, the fear of public places. And the good news is you're not alone. You might want to try talking to a clinical pyschologist (also called a psychiatrist).
Check out this website... I hope it helps
Good luck!
Do you have agoraphobia?
just focus on something that calms you. think about the fresh air, the crisp trees, the blooming flowers. where are you moving? maybe you could find out some cool things about the state that would make you want to go out. i don't think i really helped, but i tried. i'm sorry. this sounds hard for you, and i really wish i could help you.
Sounds like extreme Agoraphobia

There are three main types of treatment for agoraphobia:
Therapy
Medications
Combination of therapy and medications
Behavior and cognitive therapy are the treatments of choice for agoraphobia. If panic accompanies the agoraphobia, people are sometimes referred for a brief course of a prescribed medication, such as an anti anxiety medication.

If you are 16 and feel these ways, why aren't you sharing this with your mom. Let her know how you feel. Hopefully, she will be of comfort to you and help you with your fears.
Yeah, get a doctor man. That is messed up. There is introverted, but then you got more than that if you're afraid.
Hide behind a pair of sunglasses.

They make me feel safe whenever I'm feeling very self-conscious... but that's just my thing. I don't know what you can do to get over your social anxiety, except I suggest you visit a psychologist first. I'm sure one would even agree to just chat via text messages or an instant message service until you get used to them, you know?

Baby steps.

For now, try on a pair of sunglasses. It helps me.
why are you so insicure.. lol you have to let loose.. your 16 i mean come on.. you should not be scared to have friends and have fun.. your scared to go out in public.. why, there is nothing to be scared about.. grow up..
You might be suffering from Social Anxiety Disorder.

WebMD is also a good resource for learning about things.

Best suggestion is once you move to try to be social at school and see if you can break yourself out of this funk. I'm naturally a shy person, so I can relate.

Just try and relax. Most people are good and don't mean any harm. People also tend to smile back at someone who smiles at them. So if you're nervous - smile and you'll be surprised at their response.

If you're still having trouble down the road a bit - see a doctor. They might be able to give you something to help get you going again.

Good luck
what are you so scared of people we are all made alike some of us a little rounder, taller, shorter, little, some are prettier, some just right down ugly.but we are all made the same inside.god made us all,and there is no one better then you, although theres some like to think they are but sometimes you just haved to puttum in their place. go out there hold your head high and put a smile on that face, if someone dont smile back, just keep on smiling anyway . hey this world belongs to you just as much as it does anyone ealse. so you go girl. and good good luck!
Sounds like you have social anxiety. I used to have it really bad, starting around 10-12 years old... And it has gotten better. I am now 24. I was so bad I refused to buy my own clothes or whatever when I went somewhere... I had to have whoever I was with take my money and buy it for me. Basically I just didn't want to deal with the cashier that I didn't know. I also blushed extremely easily for no good reason. I still do sometimes, but rarely. I still don't like shopping or doing anything out in public alone. Or even going to a social function I prefer to have someone I am comfortable around to sit with or whatever or I feel really uncomfortable and nervous the whole time. This anxiety is my main reason for having hated school from 7th grade on up.

I'm not sure what you can do to help it... I even worked as a hostess when I was 17 seating people at a restaurant, but the forced interation with people did not help anything for me. I dreaded it. After I had my first son when I was 19 things got a lot better as well.. I'm not sure why that helped but it did. Time and age made things better, so just try to get through it and maybe as you get older it will get better. Like I said, I still have it, but not nearly as bad as when I was your age. You can always try going to a psychiatric doctor about it. I know they have medication you can take for it, but I never took any, and doubt I ever would. I hope you find a way to get rid of it! I know it would make life more simple.
belive it or not, thats actually a disease. go to the doctor, get some pills and therapy, and youll be fine in no time.
