What are coping tips for ADHD in a teen girl?

Question:
I was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago. I am still finding answers hard to come by. I do not know how to explain to my family and friends why I can't control my actions, and how to control my actions. I am on medication, which helps me think sanley, but I still struggle making decisions and focusing, and off my medication, I am completley wild and impulsive. It is difficult for people to understand that I have ADHD, if they have only seen me on my medication, and tell me that there is no possible way i have it, and when I get off they are shocked. It is verrrry hard in school , and my homework is overwhelming all the time. How do i deal???

The best coping tip is to find something you really love to do and throw yourself into it.

Since you will be focusing on what you are doing, you will not be focusing on how you feel or think or behave.

Keep your brain and your body busy doing things that make you happy.

Learn to do many things including sports and other physical activities.

Just remember that while you are thinking about you other people are thinking about themselves too.

So the world is not just for you but for everyone.
Don't get off the medications until you have either outgrown it or, through therapy, developed self-controlling mechanisms to handle it. DBT (dialectic behavior therapy) has helped many curbing impulsive behavior and it may be a help with you as well, so ask your mental health practitioner.
