just remember that all people excell in life. You'll do good at what you like to do. I don't know if you have a problem or if you just haven't done a lot of practicing at home on your own. Have you taken any psychological tests? Tests that could determine what you're good at, what you should strive for? Being slow is ok too, as long as you are learning. Maybe you need a tutor. Some people start out slow and catch up later. Even some people take the Dale Carnegie or other courses to help their memory. Did you get A's and drop down, or did you never get A's? Have you been taught how to study? Is there a lot of noise where you live, is it hard for you to concentrate because of noise or distractions? How about your vision? Have you had your vision checked? Not being able to see well could be the problem. Do you play games on the net to build up your speed? There are lots of different games for all levels. Do you play board games with family members? Or things like scrabble? Are you stressed out or under pressure? There are so many things to try. And see what you are good at. If your grades aren't superb then you might consider a career that doesn't require speed, or something that requires something repetitive action, those can be good jobs too.
You sound like you probably have a learning disability,. go to your school counselors and talk with them. Let them know the kind of problems you are experiencing, and ask for their help.
Talk to a pyschologist, and get his/her opinion. There could be a chemical imbalance in the brain. People are right brained or left brained. Left brained people are smart, do advanced math, etc but right brained usually are more concrete, which means they either see it as black or white. Not abstract. It is curable with medicine, but only your doctor can prescribe it. Or just stop and focus on your thoughts. And take vitamins C and E, they help the brain think, espacially E. Hope this helps.

Only get informed advice from your doctor, i am just giving an opinion
You're in the 9th grade, so although you may be slow there's no reason to dispair. Cut yourself some slack. Comparing yourself to other people will only cause you angst; instead, keep looking for ways to enhance what you have, and celebrate the ways in which you suceed in doing that.
I am sorry your feeling like this about yourself... This age is a tough one and friends can be so mean. The older we get the more we start to recognize our own weakness. we compare ourselves to others and are very critical of ourselves if we do not measure up.
If your able to keep up good grades, and there is no diagnosis of a learning disability or ADD then maybe it just takes time for things to sink in?
I am sure other kids have the same things to have to deal with too, and there are other kids who don't even have friends. Consider yourself lucky.
Have you been to a doctor for a thorough exam? There are diseases and conditions which can cause mental slowness.

I would suggest seeing your family physical.

Make sure you bring a list of all your concerns and symptoms.
