The best way to get a six pack is to lose fat. Everyone has a six pack, but for most people they are not visible because a thick layer of fat covers the muscles. For developing a well defined six pack, the most important factor is nutrition. And the second is abdominal strength, and an active life style.

For nutrition, if you are really determined you should be eating 6 smaller high protein meals spaced equally throughout the day. You should also drink lots of water. Eating 6 smaller meals a day means that your body’s metabolism will never slow down in the long periods of time between meals. This translates to burning more calories throughout the day. However if you are looking to lose weight you must eat less calories a day than you use. However there is a fine line between how fast you can drop calories. If you go from eating 2500 calories one day to eating 1800 the next this sudden change will shock your body’s metabolism. As a result your metabolism will slow down making it harder to lose weight.

Second is an active life style and abdominal workouts. Basically most ab workout there will do the job at toning the muscles. However if you are looking for really strong abs you must add weights. The only benefit from dong 200 crunches as opposed to 100 is your abs will have more endurance but not necessarily more strength. For high strength I recommend using machines where you can add weight to them to progressively over load your abdominals. Doing 3 sets of 10-12 where the weight is high enough so that on your third set you can barely complete all the reps, it is far better for building strength than doing 100 crunches. You may be sore for a few days after you begin a new work out, but that goes away after a while.

Hope this information helps with your goals. By the way the tip for abdominals can be applied to any muscle group.

the way to lose the fat is diet and cardio. Doing sit ups will give you a stronger core but it won't burn the fat(as much, if at all). your best bet is up the cardio per day and cut out bread and white sugar. Not as much carbs just the bread and white sugar.
Assuming you're eating healthy and doing cardio, your best bet is probably pilates. It is definitely something done by women more than by men, but try not to let that bother you - after having 3 children and gaining a ton of weight, I can honestly say it was the one thing that really targeted my stomach. Stick with lean protein (fish, etc) and of course, with lifting weights, the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn, even when resting. At least give pilates a try though.
