Why does the Subway guy seem healthy, and eats bread..but every health person keeps saying carbohydrates bad?

Question:
That subway guy seems happy these days. I wish i was like him. i have never been fat and i'm not fat now but i have some signs of a pot belly that's starting to form.. my gut falls forward a bit, especially since i got injured, am depressed often, and i ccan't do running because of knee injuries. how can i be happy like the subway guy and lose the gut? I'm not that fat.. it's like, when i was fit and could run and do alot of cardio i was 140lbs.. now i'm 152lbs.

Answers:
This whole anti-carbohydrate thing has been blown way out of proportion. Carbs are not bad for you at all. There are three different forms of energy we eat, carbs, fats, and proteins, and someone just figured that carbs are the least 'neccessary' of those forms, so if you're going to cut one, cut the carbs. By themselves, and in normal amounts, they won't make you overweight, or make you feel bad in anyway.

It sounds to me that it is the lake of exercise that is really contributing to your current dilemma. Not getting enough exercise can of course lead to a pot belly, but can also cause feelings of depression. I'm sorry to hear that you were injured; are there any exercises that you can still do? What about swimming? Maybe a nearby gym might have some machines you can use that won't exacerbate your injury. If you can find some way to get a regular workout in, you'll probably feel a LOT better!
As always, everything in moderation, including carbs.

I hope your injury's starting to heal. As you grow older, your body's metabolism slows down, meaning the body can't burn as many calories as it did when you were younger. More fat is stored which leads to weight gain. The best thing for you to do would be to continue exercising (ask your doctor about exercises you can do that don't involve straining your knee further) and eating a healthy, balanced diet (lots of fruits and vegetables, not too much red meat etc).

You should see a therapist as well, since you say you're depressed. Also, regular exercise (again, something that doesn't involve running or jogging, coz of your knee injury) makes you feel happier as the body releases endorphins when you work out.

Good luck with everything!
OK. What those healthy people mean is that some carbs are bad. Most carbs are essential for the body. But like all food, too much of it is very unhealthy!
Besides, happiness doesn't come from healthiness Some people are both healthy and happy;but that doesn't mean you have to be healthy to be happy!
You can be happy as long as you love yourself!
Carbs are not bad. Fat is what makes you fat. You can eat anything in moderation, but if you want to lose fairly quickly, don't eat refined foods. Eat vegetables, fruits, lean meats and brown rice. DO cut sugar and white flour.
