should i let my new tattoo dry and scab over?

Question:
its been 3 days since i got it, i have been putting A+D medication on it to keep it from drying out, i was wondering if i should stop and let it dry out to heal faster or if i should keep doing what i am?

Answers:
NO NO NO!

A&D is good for fresh ink, however, once a "scab" forms, you should stop putting the ointment on and switch to a NON-SCENTED lotion, such as jergens, or my personal favorite is Lubriderm. the grease ointment is ONLY to form a "temporary scab" to prevent bacteria, thus giveing way to infection. So, your answer is

A&D for about 3-5 days (depending on how fast you heal)
Lotion for 1-3 weeks

also, avoid chlorinated water, direct sunlight, or anything like that.

Good luck and welcome to the Inked Nation
