Why do i get black splinter looking marks under my thumb nail?

Nothing to worry about... all gays get that! Hell, i don't know... but it's odd if it's only under a single thumbnail and no other finger. You don't say if it's always or only sometimes there, on both or only the one thumbnail or if you work on cars or something where they get dirty and maybe it's not 'under' but 'within' ridges that are hard to clean.

As you describe them, they are NOT typical of any symptom connected with a cardiovascular problem, but you could see a doctor... if only to relieve yourself of concern regarding any other horrible affliction people might suggest to you.

I used to get those when I was younger, they have gone now, and i'm ok, so unless you have tons of them I wouldn't worry.

its the rubbish wee pick up through the day whats in the nail get a good nail kit and use the sticks to peel out

Can be bacterial endocarditis but can be caused by trauma especially if under only one nail.
