Answers:
I would say a balanced diet!
Never skip your breakfast and drink lots of water
exercise is way more important than diets. diets are cool and all.but you have to exercise if your going to keep the weight off.

I would suggest going on the Atkins diet and do induction for a couple of weeks. Then do the south beach diet and stick with that for awhile.

In the meantime get a gym membership and or make sure your going for a walk 3-5 times a week.after a bit pick up the pace on your walk to include a little cardio.

Weight lifting builds extra muscle which helps you keep lean the rest of your life.

Do not eat 4-6 hours before bedtime.
Eat wholesome food and drink water. Avoid processed foods.

In other words. diet.
What you eat is probably the most critical aspect to your health. Forget "diets", but build your own "lifelong diet" out of high nutrition, low calorie foods. I did that and lost 85 pounds four years ago, and I've kept nearly all of it off. One great resource that helped me more than anything was Men's Health Magazine. Tons of great tips on nutrition, exercise and everything. Check out their web site!

An active lifestyle is also important.

Don't forget to take care of the mental, emotional, spiritual you, too. It's all intertwined.

Good luck taking care of yourself, bro!
