How painful is a vasectomy and how quickly do you recover - can I drive home afterwards?

Question:

Answers:
It's not painful, but there was a pulling sensation the whole time. It was more of a psychological thing, I think, but it was indeed uncomfortable, and I have a pretty high pain tolerance. It doesn't last long, though. As far as driving home, I wouldn't recommend it after ANY procedure. Good luck.

Frank says no discomfort to prevent driving, and that may be true, but the meds they give you, even though you may feel normal and not all loopy, could have an effect on reaction times. Don't drive yourself home.

Other Answers:
Not painful, you will be given local anaesthetic, but you will also be injected with stuff to "relax" you! And trust me, you won't be driving after that injection! The worst thing about vasectomy is the hair growing back, damn it itches! The rest of the process is fine!
In India they have vasectomy clinics in railway stations and even pay a bonus. It is a minor procedure and virtually painless and there will be a little discomfort later but nothing to prevent driving.
Its usually done with a local anaesthetic, if you are very nervous they may give you some valium to calm you down and you are ready to go within the hour after. However if you have had the valium you cannot drive for a few hours so will need a taxi or sympathetic friend to take you home. Some swelling may happen but all gone in a day or two.

I said "isn't that going to be painful"

we even had sex just to make sure it still worked.

Be sure you are clear about the possible side effect after because no one tells you about them later.
