I know R.E.M. causes routine PHYSICAL arousal in males, but I'm wondering about if they are neccesarily sexually minded or not.

Yes and No. The erection may be the result of an erotic dream though most males especially teenagers will normally awaken with an erection because blood flow to the penis is strongest at that age.Another reason is the guy has to urinate.
