Is it true that uncircumcised men are more likely to get AIDS virus?

Question:
I attended a lecture before and they mentioned something about this although they did not elaborate, they mentioned something about cell receptors.

Answers:
The answer to your question is "yes and no." Yes, an uncircumcised man is more than ten times as likely to contract HIV from an unprotected contact with an HIV+ partner. No, uncircumcised men are not *generally* more at risk, unless they are engaging in unprotected sexual activities.

The "cell receptors" are Langerhans cells, present in great concentrations within the inner foreskin; they actually *attract* viruses like HIV, HSV, and HPV (AIDS, Herpes and genital warts), and are the cause of the increased risk. Hygiene has no effect upon the Langerhans cells' action, and the only way to render them inactive is to either remove them or keratinize them (both the result of two different types of circumcision).

All of the major studies have shown a dramatic decrease in HIV transmission from unprotected intercourse for men who have been circumcised. There is no reasonable argument against the data, except from those who oppose circumcision for *any* reason, and who do not want the information about more than ten global (!) studies (which all show a six-to-tenfold increase in the risk, regardless of geographic location) to become public knowledge.

Other Answers:
Sounds highly unlikely to me - I thought most affected men caught AIDS by having it go in their mouth, anus, or vein anyways.

Not being circumcised elavates the risk of disease if not cleaned properly, AIDS is so versitial it doesn't matter. No, it hypothetical.

NO. Either can get it if they practice unsafe activites with male or female. Such is the state of the world.

Yes, recent research is showing this to be true. It's thought that the warm & moist environment between the foreskin and the shaft is a great place for the HIV virus to hang out long enough to start causing trouble.
