On Contact Lenses?

Question:
I was wondering how long can one wear contact lenses? I wear them for around 12-16 hours, but I have seen it on TV, it being adviced it should not be worn for more than 8 hours. As they say, the cornea doenst get enough oxygen, and it harms in long run. Any thoughts?

Answers:
You can develop an allergy, a sensitivity, or perhaps even an eye infection the longer you have a foreign body in your eye. If you develop a problem under your eyelids from excessive contact lens wearing you could perhaps end up not being able to wear contacts anymore. Therefore, investigate the newest contacts out there the ones that let oxygen in more easily. and try to cut back your wear to 8-10 hours a day, with a day off completely on the weekends. Make sure to use plenty of rewetting drops, and consult your opthalmologist.

Other Answers:
I wear mine from when I get up to right before I go to bed. So about 14-16 hours, towards the end they can get a little dry. It depends on the lens, if you get acuve advance..it lets more air through to your eye and allows you to wear them longer. If you have an older lens it tends to block air to your eye making them become irritated so you have to take them out sooner.

It depends on the type/brand of contacts that you have. Follow your optometrist's instructions.
