Adult adhd in men, how do you handle it?

Question:

Answers:
Some men learn to channel the energy and have very productive lives. My husband has always had to work twice as hard to get or do what others without ADHD do and as a result he is very hard working and very meticulous about everything he does which is a good thing except that he has a hard time relaxing and enjoying family when there are things that he thinks need to be done.

When our son was diagnosed my husband realized that he had all the symptoms and began taking medications after seeing our sons physicologist and medical doctor and doing an evaluation. Immediately he could sit down and totally do everyhting necessary to get a new computer up and running with all programs and things that have to be normally done by a technician. He could remember instructions he read that previously he had to read 3 or 4 times and recheck every step ,etc.

He does best on Adderal, tried all kinds of anitdepressants in the past but side affects were more than he wanted to deal with.

Find a doctor that specializes in ADD & ADHD. Don't listen to the people that think it is all in your head, only you know what you feel like. My husband had a hard time accepting that our son had ADHD, but I just knew that he was being damaged by the way others treated him because of his behavior and that I was willing to try treatment. It was the best thing we ever did and would never have known that was also my husbands problem.

We did not drug him to oblivion, just enough that he could function where he needed to. He was off of meds weekends, holidays and summers to give him body a break, because of the damage the meds used at that time's to the liver. Even then the family suffered because we were not able to enjoy activities together and the holidays because of his behavior. The have much better medications now. Follow your doctors advice.

It's one of those walk a mile in my shoes!! If you don't think it exists, then do not respond to questions about it because you have no idea of how it can affect your life and those around you.

You don't handle it because there is no such disease. How were you or whoever diagnosed? What was done to prove that is what you have? What are your symptoms?

ADD and ADHD are probably the two biggest cop outs in the last fifty years of medicine. Those two along with fibromyalgia, which I have renamed fibromyassa and this does not exist either.
