Does anyone know if the army will accept someone with light skoleosis?

Question:
My son has a light skoleosis which sometimes causes him back pain, but basically he is fine and you can barely see it. Now he is trying to join the army and we wonder if they will take him.

Answers:
It's possible. It just depends on how bad the scoliosis is. They will likely not do an x-ray which is the only true way to diagnose the problem when it is minor. So, while I don't advocate lying, if it truly is a minor problem, I would discourage him from bringing it up. The military screeners tend not to explore the severity of a problem.it just IS a problem if the person answers "yes" to a health history question.

For example, I had mild asthma as a kid. When I tried to join the Navy, I answered "yes" to the history of asthma question and was turned down. An AF recruiter advised me not to bring it up. I didn't and was accepted and was in the AF for 23 years. BTW, I also have a slight scoliosis.

Good luck to your son.
