Why are my ears doing this?

Question: Why arem y ears feeling stuffy and muffled. My ears have been poppnig when i swallow some times more thna others for am onth now. I went to the doctor and he said its fine just forget aobut it. But now my ears feel very muffled and stuffy liek something stuck in them. Ive tried lbwoing out my ears veryl ightly and it works great. I feel a ottal release nad and major opening in my ear where they feel normal. But it only lasts a little bit until it ocmes back again. I do have a bad runny nose lately so do you think maybe its snot caught in my ears or something? Whats wrong its very nanoying and uncomfortable and i want it to go away. And can i lose my hearing form this constant popping and stuffy ears becasue its making me nervous.

Tyler, It sounds like you have fluid in your ears, which often happens when you have a cold or runny nose. You need to take something that will help dry this up. I don't know your age, but teens and adults take sudafed during the day and Benadryl at night(because the sudafed can keep you awake) This can take weeks but stick with it. The fluid can become infected and you would need an antibiotic,so if you have pain you should go back to the Dr.and no, the popping will not cause you to loose your hearing,recurrent ear infection could cause that, When you pop your ears you are just changing the pressure in your ears like they tell you to do when flying.

It sounds like you have fluid in your inner ear, associated with a cold or ear infection.I would wait a couple of days to see what happens.I would also try taking some antihistamine, that might help dry it up.

Popping your ears just opens the tubes which run from your internal nasal cavity to the back of your mouth/throat. They are called the Eustachian tubes. They get blocked with mucus when you are congested.

You have nasal congestion so they keep blocking up again and again. "Popping" them will cause no ill effects; your doctor has checked your eardrums etc..

Ask your Pharmacist for a nasal decongestant. Pseuoephedrine, xylometazoline or phenylephrine are readily available in many different brands. Do not use for more than 5 consecutive days as they can cause "rebound" congestion if used for longer.

If you ever get a sharp and severe pain when popping your ears seek medical advice at once. This can indicate inner ear damage or infection and early treatment will fix it.
