Answers:
Try taking him fishing...
Get him involved in your life...
Take him to a car show...
Ask him how to change your oil in your car...
Play cards...
Play board games...
Both of you mow the grass...
When he gets angry or sad, hug him...
Take him out to dinner of his choice and a move of his choice...
Or surprise him... make him get all fancy... and take him somewhere really nice... make sure no menu has the prices... and YOU pay the bill don't ask him to...
Make him his favorite cake...
Send him a card "thinking of you" "I love you" "your the best dad" that you made by hand in the mail...
Make him coffee in the morning...
Breakfast in bed...
Take a walk down the road with him...
Go check the mail together and hold his hand without being afraid anyone is going to see you...
Small things really do amount to something...
Remember just because you may not like doesn't mean your dad won't love it...
Hope this helps!!

A lot of people are depressed right now, and meds don't always help. Too bad your father can't turn to the Lord, who heals all things....Your father needs to look around and see all the wonderfulness in his life......sometimes depressed people are really serious, and other times, they are really selfish I think...some people can't help it at all....It is sad to burden you with this, even though i am sure he isn't doing it on purpose. You need to get him to start reading the Bible and thanking the Lord for a wonderful daughter to live for...and the Lord. good luck
Give him a hobby and lock all his guns away where you have the key for his own safety.....make sure he doesn't OD on his meds and do something with him and see if you can get a smile on his face, but take him somewhere relaxing. If there's a lake or river nearby your new home take him there so he can relax. If he's single try to fix him up with a date. Let him keep smoking. If he finds that soothing let him do it. Hopefully he'll get out of his slump soon and will be easier to live with. Other than that, give all the love you can and best wishes!!
Along the lines of what orinoco said...I think you need to get him out!
Think back to the things that he really enjoyed doing or something he is good at! Its not easy and I feel for you, depression has a knock on effect on all the family. I think I would not want the guns around!
Don't worry about him smoking well not just now. You could also share your concerns about your father with your doctor as I really think you need to talk to someone!
All the best
