Is it safe to wear used socks?

Question:
I went to sports authority 2 buy new shoes but I wearing sandals so the guy tells me to try on shoes with socks there was a bin of individual socks that customers can use? So I did and then bought the shoes and wore them out but now I got to think how many guys tries these on before me and is this safe or no?

Answers:
There is nothing wrong with wearing used socks (provided the previous wearer does not have a contageous fungus like athlete's foot). With the scenario you described, the socks were not worn for extended periods of time--just in the store to try on shoes. So, they probably look clean and smell good or you wouldn't have gone near them. It's rather like wearing a restaurant's dinner jacket when you didn't bring your own. Not the best thing, but people do it, and people live through it.
Unless you now have a fungus as a result stop worrying and be sure to bring or wear your own next time,
