I had a hip replacement last year and will need the other replaced soon. Will be able to receive disability.?

Question:
I am 46 years old and work as a police officer walking most of the day and carrying almost 20 pounds of gear. I have degenerative joint disease.

Answers:
It would seem that you might qualify at least for the short term. You'll only be able to determine this once you apply. However, you may find that having that 2nd hip replaced puts you back on your feet eventually maybe making you employable again. I've had both of my hips replaced (in my late 50s) and since I recovered I consider myself back to good as new (and maybe even better!). Carrying an extra 20 lbs. all the time might not be advisable and I understand your concern. That's sort of like putting on extra weight so far as it's effect on your new fake joints and enhancing the wear.

Have you looked into either ceramic or metal bearings? You are rather young for a THR and that's why I ask. They produce fewer wear particles than the metal/poly coupling although some still have concerns about the metal ions that are released into the body with a metal/metal bearing.

Does your employer provide disability insurance along with sick leave benefits?

Final note: I found that my life changed profoundly for the better after I suffered from osteoarthritis (DJD) for several years. I went from not being able to walk without a cane to walking miles, pain-free, taking no pain meds in about a year. I hope you have this same kind of dramatic turnaround.
You should be able to.. My brother in law has it and he had back surgery because he had buldging dics and has them replaced
