i helped lift a person yesterday unexpectedly, and i got some backpain right after, what should i do?

Question:
i'm 27 and havent had backpains before when i lifted anything (not that i lift stuff all the time) so after this incident i got worried..

is there something i should do? besides obviously not lift anything now. the pain is kind of in the lower back.

the pain was worse yesterday right after the incident, now is better, i really dont think anything is dislocated.

i'm basically wondering if the pain should go away in a few days

thanks!

Answers:
If it is a minor strain (which it probably is) use ice packs the first 24 h. Use some mild anti-inflammatory/pain reliever like ibuprofen (as long as you are not allergic to it). After the first 24 h, the use of heat for brief periods (20-30 min) will help things along. The pain should diminish. If it is not becoming better and still hurting after a period of time (let's say a week) then seek medical treatment. Most minor back pains will take care of themselves. Just remember to be more careful in the future. This experience has given you a glimpse of what your 30's will be like. One's body does not tolerate the same abuse at age 20.

Hey.. I read your post.

You could poossibly benifit from some basic yoga moves.
Some are said to help improve strength in the lower back.

Yoga is slow and deliberate and you can adjust your "poses" according to your level of ability. It is also very low impact..

Rodney Yee co-wrote a book that has tons of pictures of yoga poses.. I found it at Books-A-million. I can't remember the name..

just found it.
