These fellows are correct. You need to take some sort of anti-inflammatory drug, over the counter but on the advice of your doctor. Injuries like yours take a long time to heal, but the types of drugs that reduce inflammation really help.

Are you resting your ankle enough? Do you walk a little too much while you are recuperating with this injury? Do your walking shoes give you adequate support? Could there be an undiagnosed ailment in another joint (knee, hip) that results in tugging at your ankle?

What does the doctor or physical therapist say about cold packs? Are they indicated for your ankle, especially after you have exercised or walked a great distance? Cold reduces swelling.

Can you exercise your ankle a little when you sit down in a chair, at work, while eating, or even while at your computer? Can you rotate our foot, first one way and then the other, in a circular motion? Can you exercise it in an up and down motion?

I hope this helps you. I have had such problems and know they are no fun. I don't think your added weight is really having a direct effect on you injury and pain right now. See what the doctor or physical therapist has to say about the anti-inflammatory, getting shoes that give you added support, and some simple exercises you can do while sitting down -- or even in bed!

Good luck now, buddy. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Aspirin works better than anything - as it is an anti-inflammatory.
Heating pad and Salonpas are also good options.
