Of course it's just as safe as it is any other time. You still should take the same precautions as you normally would against pregnancy and STDs.

Interesting how you phrased your question. If by "safe" you're asking "will i get some horrible disease from her bodily fluids?" then the answer is no you wont, it's safe. BUT if you're using "safe" as in birth control the answer is a big fat NO it's not a safe form of birth control. A woman CAN get pregnant while she's on her period -- common misconception. Side note: Because women are at their most "fertal" before and during their period, many are much more aroused at this time and sex can be immensely enjoyable so props to you for braving the mess. I suggest doing it in a shower.

During a woman's period (well, I don't know for other women. I know for myself) she is hornier than any other time. As long as you're doing her or you're being done while wearing a condom, it's not as gross as people think.
Granted I don't have a heavy flow like some women do because I figure that must be pretty gross and smelly. What I do is to bathe with scented oil just before sex. It stops the bleeding for a while and then I et it on. Also, a backshot (doggie style) or missionary is better than being on top. Afterwards though, your lips (u know the ones I mean) feel numb and you bleed a bit heavier after that. But IT'S WORTH IT.
