Does a heart attack victim hve to work if they do not wish to?

Question:
I am expected to put up with lots of lifestyle restrictions, eg dietary and socially, i.e. no fry ups, little beer, no smokes, no life. Also I now am on permanent medications life ACE inhibitor, beta blocker and cholesterol lowering agent. Why should I work.

Answers:
Why should you work? Well...how about to make money so that you can pay for a house or flat to live in. How about to make money so that you can buy food to eat. How about to make money so that you can buy clothing so that you don't have to walk around naked. How about to make money so you can pay for medical care.

Now, if you have enough savings...then don't work. But I think there is no correlation at all between having a heart attack and not working. No fry ups? Me either. Little beer? Me too. No smokes? Me too. No life? Nope, not me. Of course, my life never revolved around fry ups, beer, smokes, and crappy food.

I would say you should develop some healthy interests so that you can get off the damn meds as soon as possible. You'll feel a hell of alot better not being on beta blockers and ACE inhibitors, thats for sure. Hopefully those are short term meds while things heal and while your blood pressure comes down thru healthy eating...and maybe at some point you can flush the meds!

It depends if your heart attack can be diagnosed as a complete disability. If it is, you may qualify for Social Security & Medicare benefits. If it isn't, you need to keep earning a living somehow.
to earn money, why else.
If you can manage financially without working and it is something you wish to live without, it shoould be fine. if you have concerns about the stress levels of your previous work you could try changing occupation.
You should work because you have to earn a living for yourself. You could switch jobs if the one you have now is straining, just pick one you'll be able to do without restrictions
You need to work and get off your ***. Many people including older people who have heart attacks or by-pass surgeries go back to work full time. Quit filling sorry for yourself.
You don't have to work if you don't want to.

I suppose you have resources to support yourself.

Living on public resources mean having to justify not being ABLE to work---not a matter of not wanting to work or feeling deserving of not working.

Sorry that you have this life-style change and having to give up previous pleasures. Glad that you survived and can enjoy what pleasures you do have.
Do you mean you should get off work to make up for the fact you need to take medicines and can't guzzle lard and beer any more?

What about diabetics and all the other medical conditions people have? Even people in wheelchairs work jobs. Why not?

I should think it would be good for your pride and self-esteem to carry on working if possible. Would also be good to keep your weight down - very important for a heart attack victim.
If you don't want to work, you don't have to. And if you want to live off government wellfare you can. The only thing that stops you is the people who has to judge whether your elligible to receive dissability from the government or not.
Usually because we desire to live a comfortable lifestyle. But, that does not mean you have to work. You could apply for Social Security, I believe if you qualify you will be able to get about $600. a month.

If you are able to do that you can get subsidized housing, which you will have to pay about 30% of that to housing. $180.00

That leaves you with $420. You can go to food banks to supplement your food costs which leaves you with $105.00 a week spending money.

It is not a choice I would make, but we are all different. Good luck to you.
Why should I support you?
Do you HAVE to work? No. But you shouldn't be able to get any public assistance either.
The lifestyle restrictions you have been given are to prolong a healthy life for you. Same with the medications. (The meds you are on aren't THAT drastic - lots of people take those and more and get up and go to work each day.)
If your doctor has cleared you to go back to work, then it's safe for you to go. Going back may be a little frightening, but sitting around all the time isn't going to do you any good either.
my dad suffered a major heart attack in march and has just gone back to work but obviously he has to take it in moderation he is a builder and so cant lift things like before but apart fro that his ok...so i think it depends on your age etc if you dont feel ready to go back to work see what benefits you are entitled to.the last thing you need is to get stressed out at the moment..take care emma
Anything has to be better than sitting at home watching mind numbing daytime tv. If you can work then you should. Don't just look at the negative sides of the situation, you have been lucky and so you should take the opportunity to go out and enjoy life.

no fryups + little beer + no cigerettes DOESN'T EQUAL no life
fryups + beer + cigarettes EQUALS no life
Heart attack is not the end of active life. You have to obtain doctors opinion. You have to stop alcoholic drinks and smoking. Some dietary restrictions are must. You can attend social functions but do not corss the limits prescribed by doctor. If you are having plenty of money you can relax at home. But some work keeps you fit mind preoccupied.Good Luck
