Why does shivering burn calories?

Question:
I have been told that cold showers and freezing in general is good for your health!

Answers:
The body shivers in order to generate heat to maintain your normal body temperature of 98.7. Calories are merely units of energy. You need "energy" to produce heat. Cold showers might be okay for several different reasons... freezing is not. When you are freezing, your body temperature is dropping below the normal rate and you are in danger of hypothermia. Yes, you will burn calories if you are shivering. But there are easier ways to burn calories. Eat less and exercise more.
Everything that you do burns calories, but makeing yourself cold will not help your body!
