Gym experts plz answer me?
Question:
I have started using gym 2 since last 2 weeks and am doing well. But i was wondering if it is essential to drink some sort of protein drink before or after gym? And please suggest me some nice protein powder's/shakes available in Sydney.
And actually my hand muscles dont make my hands thick like some bodybuilders. I dont want just like that but yeh bit more thickness towards my collar. So can any one suggest me any thing for that? Can protein shake and lot of exercise can do that?
And how long does it normally takes for the chest muscles to shape up ?? Right now i am just in process of loosing the lil bit extra bit of my chest and waist and increasing exercise slowly.
Any additional comments/suggestions plz

I cannot answer all of your questions, but I can help on some. If you are just starting out with weight training, you probably do not need a protien supplement. If you have a normal, healthy diet, you are probably getting enough protein for right now. Your body will use it properly. If you want to do "something," then drink an eight oz glass of no fat milk after your workout. The whey protein in milk will help build muscle. I wouldn't worry about buying supplements for awhile. Normally, it will take 6-8 weeks of consistent workouts (3-4 times a week) for you to notice real differences in your body. Make sure you are hitting all major muscle groups (upper and lower body). Don't just concentrate on your upper body.
I'm not sure what you are asking with the question about hands and thickness, so I cannot help you there. But I can say that you need to work just on your workout for right now and not try supplements. You need to lay a good "muscle foundation" to build on later.

Rillimd gave you great advice. If you want to increase your protein intake then go ahead with a shake. If you want to use a shake for a meal replacement before or after the gym then go ahead. I have a shake in place of dinner. The brand I like is by EAS Myoplex Deluxe. It has 42 grams of whey protein. Its a powder form and I use water or soy milk and blend in fruits like a banana, strawberries and mangos or blueberries. If you want energy, some protein drinks will contain energy boosters.
To build up your trapezoids, the muscles at the base of your neck, do shoulder shrugs with dumbells or use a shrug machine.
