The northern most islands are the most settled and most populated. These are also the safest for Americans to visit. As you move south, the population changes especially far down south which is radical Muslim and very dangerous for Americans.

Start north, which is where internation flights come in anyway. Then work your way toward the middle islands for laid back beauty and fun.

What about the Philippines are you most interested ? At one time there were two large military bases there Clark AB and Subic Naval base.

It's still a large tourist attraction in that part of the world and many former military still go back there, so there is a lot of info on the web.

As far as the country it's poor and really behind the times.I'm not saying this to be negative, it's just that these people live on so very little. It can be a nice place to be, but it takes time to learn the customs and the do's and don'ts . The people are friendly and are very unselfish in sharing what little they have. But like any country that a large portion of the population is poor, it can also be a dangerous and there are a lot of scams.
