it varies from as per age and individual's personal needs. Newborn needs upto 20 hrs whereas adults need 6-8 hours and oldies need 4-6 hours
Most people need 8-10 hours to be properly rested both physically and mentally. Without the proper amount of sleep you could develop any number of disease or illness, not to mention the dangers of falling asleep while driving or performing other dangerous tasks.
9-10 hours should make you more alert and its healthy
It depends upon persons' health. If you are healthy and you have less hard work five hours is sufficient, but for hard workers six to seven hours sleep is essential. For children eight to ten hours.

I think I'm right in stating that you do not need any sleep at all. What the body needs is rest. This has been proven by a small percentage of people in the world who have a rare sleep disorder. I do not know what the medical term for this afliction is. But I do know that tests have been carried out on at least some of these people by some of the worlds most prominent doctors. These tests are carried out under strict conditions. And sure enough, despite not sleeping, or only getting one or two minutes sleep in consecutive 24 hour periods. These people are perfectly healthy in all respects.

So the answer is NO SLEEP AT ALL. But the body must have rest!
8 hours
approx 8 hours!
