Has anyone got any tips on quitting smoking?

Question:
I smoke around 30 cigs a day and have done for the past 14 years. I think it’s time that I quit, but I can’t find the motivation to do it.

I enjoy a smoke after meals, and in the pub so these are going to be the hardest times for me. I go to the pub a few nights a week, and I don’t want to stop this, so has anyone got any ideas?

You need motivation and willpower. Without these you unfortunately will not suceed. Try talking the NHS quit smoking helpline.
get hypnotized a couple of times
I was a smoker for a lot of years. I would smoke at least a pack a day. I got to the point of health and family nagging me to quit so I did.

I went cold turkey and after two days the desire to smoke began to decline. When I had the urge to smoke I would eat a carrot or chew gum. I also had the encouragement of family.
you know what i would really worry about your weigh problem
first then i would think about quiting smoking if i were you i would start getting up and start walking the malls in the morning that way you would lose weight and you would to start to feeling better about your self then i would to start to think about quieting smoking
The biggest motivation is your health. You may not feel
any problems now, but they will certainly come as time
goes by and, by then it is too late - the damage is done.
I believe that living and good health is a good enough reason.
I got one idea and it worked with another great smoker alike you. It needs too time staying here to describe it, so write me then!

It takes dedication and the will to really want to quit. Set a date and stick to it. Find something to replace that smoke after a meal, and have something to chew on (gum, straw, candy (sugar free)
COLD TURKEY!!!!! ONLY WAY. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK THE NICOTINE LEVELS GO DOWN, YOU MAY SLIP SOMETIME AFTER THE WEEK HERE AND THERE BUT JUMP BACK ON THE WAGON! FOR THE HABIT, AS FAR AS THE CIG BETWEEN YOUR FINGER TO MOUTH PUFFING, THAT IS WHAT IS THE BIG PROBLEM, THERE ARE THESE PLASTIC TYPE CIGS WITH A HOLDER LIKE THEM OL' DAYS... PICK UP SOME AND PUFF AWAY UNTIL YOUR HEARTS CONTENT. CHEW SUGAR FREE GUM IT WILL HELP CLEAN YOUR TEETH AND TAKE THE TOXINS OUT BECAUSE SORBITOL IN SUGAR FREE HELPS WITH CONSTIPATION, SO IT WILL CLEAN YOU OUT FOR A WHILE.
hi......i stopped smoking nearly 6 months ago....i'd smoked 30-40 a day,and since i was at school,i am now 46......i wouldnt say i have any tips, but i'm happy to tell you how i did it.

first of all i gave myself a date on which i was going to stop...i gave myself about 4 weeks,so that i could mentally prepare for it......during those weeks i bought nicotine inhalors, and tried them too,to see if they would work......i tried using them without putting the nicotine in to see if they might help,to my surprise, they did help.....

and lastly i was recommended a book, called THE EASYWAY TO STOP SMOKING.....its written by Alan Carr.......it has the effect of changing the way you think about smoking and stopping......i used the inhalors for about 3 months, but for the last 2 have used nothing......instead i drink water out of bottles to satisfy any craving for the hand to mouth action..altho that has become much less too......i hope this helps......good luck
I think I would worry a little more about my weight, if that pic is of you. By the way that is not a beer belly! "THAT IS A WAY TO MUCH FOOD BELLY".
when you stop smoking you have to change your lifestyle as well to reach your goal. Stop thinking about how much you enjoy it and start thinking about the way it brings you down. Skip the pub if you are having a hard day with cravings. Invite the friends you usually see at the pub over to your place to play cards instead. And have a smoke free home. Eat smaller meals so that you never need that I'm so full smoke.
become a non smoker.
if some one says do you want a smoke well say Im a non smoker,
If you want a smoke say im a non smoker and throw some gum in ya mouth
As a non smoker I find it so hard to understand people who do smoke as its clinically proven that smoking contributes to all sorts of health problems & diseases. What more motivation do you need. A good idea would be to visit a few poor souls in your local hospice, who at some time may have been in the same situation with no motivation to quit, but my God I bet they wish they could have found the motivation now! I know we are all guilty of bad habits & excesses of one kind or another & I'm no exception, but you will be doing yourself ( and others around you) one enormous favour by quitting. Dont decide to stop ' after this last packet or after the weekend or after your holidays or whenever you have to make the decision to do it NOW, that last packet might just be the catalyst to spell disaster. Good luck !
from personnal experience Smoked for 11 yrs gave myself a date to stop ie birthday that was it didnt touch a cig after that, will power how much do you really want to stop but it does help if no one smokes near you really is not hard if you think about it sometimes a nagging partner helps too didnt use anything to stop after a yr am glad i did stop went to africa with the money i saved good luck on giving up feel alot better health wise too do it now STOP STOP STOP get your weight checked out to
theres a book called the 'Easy Way'- you smpoke while you read it and by the time you have finished the book you don't want to smoke any more, it is really helpful and in most book shop. i think there are group sessions which have the same results if you don't like reading.. Good luck!
i quit 6 weeks and found it easy for the first few weeks after that i lost sight of my goals but still haven't had a cig
here are my tips

use nicotine replacement

drink a lot of water (it helps flush the crap out of you and your feel better quicker)

when you feel like you want a cig try not to think about it as the craving will go in a few mins

while in the pub play with the beer mats keep your hand busy

take up a new hobby to keep you mind of cigs (mine was exercise)

treat yourself with the money you haven't spent on fags

chew gum (if your not on nicotine gum)

good luck
