Answers:
Adding up time from different periods of sleep does not equal one full night of rest, even if the number of hours is the same. Sleeping for 2 hours in the afternoon and 6 at night is not the same as sleeping 8 hours at night.

Humans have a very sensitive biological clock and "Circadian Rhythm" which regulates the body during sleep. During the entire 7 to 9 hours of average sleep, your brain goes into 4 different stages of sleep. Your brain waves change as a result of each stage. It is said that the most benefit comes when your brain is in stage 4- "deep sleep" when it is the least active and able to rest and repair. Interrupting this could result in problems.

Your sleep and wake cycles need to be pretty much standard and rely heavily on light and darkness. Before the discovery of electricity, people rose with the sun and retired soon after sunset. Our bodies are meant to operate on this principle.

In short, I would recommend sleeping from 10pm-5am (this should give you enough rest) and use the time from 5am until your first class as "quiet time" to study.
just see how you feel. everyone's body is different.
