My male friend has a so called prostate gland infection, where could he possibly got it?Is it contageous?

Question:
Will it make him impotent? He's only 22 years old. He had it checked from a physician and was advised to undergo urine culture and ultrasound (kidney). Im quite worried for he confides in me all the time. I make some researches of my own but I still want to get some opinion to other people who could at least give enlightenment on the matter...

Answers:
Prostatitis (an infection of the prostate gland) can be due to any of several causes. The only cause that he could pass on to you would be chlamydia. If that's the cause, you could get infected if you have sex with him. Of course, if *you* have had undiagnosed chlamydia, you could have passed it to him in the first place.

But most cases of prostatitis come from other causes, and none of the other ones are sexually transmissable. In fact, sometimes prostatitis can occur without an infection, which unfortunately can make it hard to treat.

One thing you should be aware of is that prostatitis can make sex difficult. He may have less interest, and he may have difficulty getting or maintaining an erection until the problem is resolved. That has nothing to do with how he feels about you, but you need to be aware of what can happen.
It is not contagious.
