Well it depends on your definition of normal. If you go by the definition from wordweb "Conforming with or constituting a norm or standard or level or type or social norm; not abnormal" then no, it certainly isn't normal, as most people don't do anything like that.
However there could be some subset of people I'm unaware of that do such things making it very normal. However, I kind of doubt it.

well, among the mean and shallow people today in this cruel world, i'd say it's normal. i rarely ever see anyone genuinely happy anymore and i end up doing the same thing. my favorite linkin park song is numb, in the end, and breaking the habit =)
