A friend of mine just recently told me that he's got blood in his semen. Doesn't anyone know what this means?

The medical term for this is haematospermia-it is not uncommon and in every case I have seen no abnormality has been found. However it is worth seeing his doctor for a few simple tests. I assume that he does not have any other symptoms such as burning on peeing or penile discharge or any thing to suggest STD
Just once or always? If it only happened once, he probably got kicked in the balls and hurt his testicles. He'll heal up.

If it's constantly, get him to a doctor asap.
if it is always than he may have cancer!
Tell him not to fool around with that. He should see his doctor who is qualified, trained, and licensed to give proper medical advice. People on this site are not. Good luck.

Chow!!
It somewhat depends on his age. If he is young then it is probably caused by a urinary tract infection. It is actually pretty common. If he is older (over 30) then there are other factors to consider. Is there blood in his urine? (This can only be determined by testing). Any history of kidney stones? Test for prostate issues (psa). Too many variables to make a diagnosis.
Could be urinary tract infection, kidney infection, who knows. Something's wrong and he needs to get it to a doc, pronto.
It could be a very bad sign.
