Do sit-ups do any good?

And if so, what? I use a sit-up bench and acheive about 250 - 300 every other morning, are these doing me any good, if not what should I be doing. Objective is obviously a firmer stomach.

you should do sit ups maybe 1-2 times a week. if you dont rest and let the muscle heal it does nothing.

also try not to have much fat around your stomach as this will make it harder to see them

Yra situps are good so are push ups,i think you should do push ups twice for 5 days and situps twice for 3 days and dont over feed.
Generally sit up DO NOT WORK. For people trying to loose weight in the middle it particularly is a waste of time. They've done studies that showed not one inch was lost by doing sit ups. Save yourself a lot of pain and trouble.
Yes it does you good!! You should develop your side obliques, your whole torso and your back too though, otherwise you will end up with a weak back. (overdeveloped stomach and weak back, not good!) Your whole torso needs to be firm and strong.

Also you will never see your six pack if you have any ammount of fat around your stomach.

run afew miles every other day, sit ups everyother day.

20 pushups x 3 reps
20 jumpimg jacks x 3 reps
run 1-2 miles if you can,
if you cant do these then lower them till you can but it hurts like heck. if its not enough do more.
once every other week do as many as you can in 2 mins.
you can do more than you think you can just push harder and you will see results. the more pain you feel the better it is.if you get a cramp run it out trust me it will stop. drink plenty of water and watch what you eat. dont let your body tell your brain you cant do any more, let your brain tell your body you can do more.
do crunches not situps. situps were voted one of the top 3 worst excersizes still done, by men's health because they're bad 4 ur back. crunches are much better and you need to hold them for 3 seconds at the top for best results and even better if you can do it with a weight on your chest. do them in sets of 25 to 30 because its hard to do more if you hold them and put stress on ur abs. As you do it more you can do more reps. The number of sets depends on your fitness level. You should do them every other day and not everyday because just like lifting the crunches will put micro tears in your abs and they need 48 hours to to recover and if you do them everyday the they will tear even more which isn't good, they won't heal as fast and you will injure yourself. You should do them every other day and your stomache should burn or it wasn't enough. Eat protein and drink protein shakes to help recovery. Even with lots of protein you shouldn't do them everyday! Directly after eating abs will become slightly less visable but it will go away and they will look fine later. Unless you constantly eat crappy food and get fat. And regular lifting will indirectly work your abs too and you probably want the rest of you to be muscular too GOOD LUCK!
club kid is right..doing situps wrong can actually protrude the stomach..Sit ups are actually much better for strengthening your back than they are for your stomach...crunches are good , but without a strict diet nothing will work effectively..
No since you are probably not putting weight on you while you are doing your sit ups. But overall, I would reccomend crunches.
without having strong muscles i doubt you would even be able to do such a high figure are they all in a row or how do you even have the time to do that many.
you proberly allready have strong abs but they aren't what give you a firmer stomach sit up are a muscle building exercise you need to do aerobic exercise to get rid of the fat
