How horrible for a doctor to do this if you do not really have the disease. ! That is not only unethical, but illegal. Demand another blood test, or at least go to another doctor.You said he was "making a joke"? that isn't funny. I would have to talk to the health commission where you are. This is unfathomable.!!
Go to the local health department, and get the blood drawn again.
Now, when we are exposed to possible aides contaminants, it can take up to 6 months to a year for a positive or negative blood result. If he warned you at the beginning that this is what is going on, it could have been just caution on his part. Either way, he should have told you the process. To be safe, I would continue to have blood tests every 6 months for a period of 18 months. Good luck, and remember, the doctor works FOR YOU, you should demand that he be professional along with compassionate. If you are unhappy with him, go find another !
AIDS is a horrible disease. I hope your doctor is telling the truth. But if you really have it, just live it.
you should go see another doctor and see if you have or have not got aids, in the mean time try not to spread the love to much and take precautions!

It's not a joking matter. May be your doc wanted to say something you could not understand. Being HIV +ve and suffering from AIDS are two different things. The latter may follow many years later than the former or not at all.

Doctors [and all health care providers] are ethically and legally bound to tell their patients the truth about their diagnoses, treatment options and prognosis. They can't joke or tell you that you've got a deadly disease if it's not true. If this was the case, get a copy of your medical records and secure legal counsel; you've got good reason to sue for emotional damages. You can also report the doctor's behavior to your state's Medical Board; his "prank" was unethical, inappropriate, and extremely disturbing.
If this really happened-you need to RUN from that idiot of a doctor and start all over on your labs with a REAL DOCTOR! AND you need to report "clown boy" to the American Medical Association in your area-he should have to answer for such a sick joke!-really!!
