Does playing basketball make you shorter temporarily?

Question:
I played basketball today for about 2 hours and when I came home I measured myself and I was about a half to a whole inch shorter than I was before I went to play? Is this normal?

Answers:
WHAT? Am I on Punked?
LOL there is NO way that could of happened! YOU did not measure yourself correctly the first time man. I play basketball almost everyday and I'm 6'0 imagine if that was true I would of been like 3'6 by now. LOL I can't believe ppl ask questions like these
yep it is proven ...
without exercise at all ...just a normal day ...you ming be a little bit shorter than when you woke up in the morning!
what happens is that pressure that you add to your spinal cord from playing bsktbal causes it to compress and reduces the space between your vertebae.
thats the same reason for some back problems, the pressure that is added compresses the vertebrae beyond what they can causing pain because of lack of space and cushioning between them.

but its usually nothing to worry about unless you lift more than your body can handle. while you rest your spinal cord relaxes, releasing tension between the vertebrae and making you taller again, or as you were!

its totally normal ..i lift weights alot and sometimes i get shorter by a lil over half an inch!

: )
Did you take off your shoes? Sometimes people measure themselves with their shoes on which can add 1 inch to their height. Always measure your height without any foot ware. In fact you will loose a bit of weight especially if you sweat to much as water is expelled from your body. This can also explain your temporary height shrinkage. Do not worry. It is not a big deal
