please describe pain? i dont even like gettin an iv in
Answers:
It's called a lumbar puncture. The area is first injected with lidocaine to numb it. The feeling is more of pressure than pain. It actually sounds a lot worse than it really is. You won't be able to see the procedure which makes it better for you. the critical part is to remain still.
i had one when i was about 3 and it saved my life...i had had spinal fluid putting pressure on my brain causing me to have lazy eyes, but the secong they started to spinal tap i went back to normal so to say...i dont really remember it much i juss remember being in the hospitail for about 2 weeks
Never had one but have assisted with giving them. If the Resident isn't well experienced, it might take several stabs to get fluid, saw one guy get stuck 12 times. The poor guy was screaming with each stick. About then the surgeon walked in, grabbed the needle and stuck it in, got fluid right away. Moral is--get an experienced doc, not a Resident to do it!
I had one and I never felt any pain or discomfort. I had it done out-patient. The anticipation is the worst part. Relax it's nothing.
yes-it's no fun but I was founfd to have Multiplesclerosis. It's a very good way to find out stuff. Just RELAX and really curl up when they insert the needle. I have had one good one and one not so good one! Good luck
