Crunches are really the best. You can do this even on a decline bench where your legs are supported. You can also do obliques by crunching towards the sides as you raise up. You can also do crunches on exercise balls, more difficult but will give even an extra ooomph. ©
Leg raises also tones the lower abs. (This is done lying down.)
You can also grab a hanging bar and raise your legs to horizontal position. This is more difficult than leg raises.
