If a guy is using something like Chapstick, that's pretty common; as lips generate no oils of their own and can get dry. As for something shiny, I don't see my straight men friends do that; even my gay friends don't do that now that I think of it. Although I have seen men wear it, I think it looks rather odd.

There is nothing worse than making out with a guy with chapped lips... gross!
But he shouldn't carry it around and apply obsessively like a chick... lame!
lip balm is to protects your lips and to keep them healthy and stop them from chapping
men also need that... IMO theres nothing wrong with it... i'd rather use than get bloody cracked chappy dry lips...

I would think, hey his lips are chapped. But if you're using it like 40 times to the extent that your lips look like you've been eating fried chicken all day, then there's something wrong and to think about. Just apply it once on top and once in the bottom, put it away.
