I'm against it but think if it has to be done then the adult male should make their own choice, pleased to hear about the new Victorian laws.
To Beacher: Dr Russell is one of the last doctors left in Australia who practises circumcision. He is probably promoting it because he receives a hefty fee for each operation. His statistics about the rates of circumcision are not supported by any other statistics provided in Australia. And Australia is not becoming more circ-friendly...rates are dropping even after the HIV information (which is ridiculous...it did not apply to any other STDs and does not reduce the chances enough to mean circumcised guys can do away with condoms and all). The fact it is now being taken out of public hospitals in one more state show the rates are dropping.
I dont see the links, but i think it should be the parents choice, its mostly a religious thing anyway so the hospital shouldnt get a say in it.
I was circumcised as an adult, and I think it's very beneficial.

but I have heard that men who are not circumcised do not contract HIV as easily as men who are (of course speaking of intercourse without a condom)
They say when you are circumcised there are parts of the skin that are open on microscopic levels the allows direct passing of the disease into the blood stream upon contact.
The forskin if left intact (no circumcision) acts as a weak shield... ( but a shield none the less), whereas a circumcised penis is exposed because od the circumcision...

On the circumcision thing, I don't think it's a big problem...
Now I am 1000% against female circumcision! That is just wrong and BRUTAL...
I dont know why the hell everyone is so against circumcision. Im 17, and I decided I wanted to be circumcised this summer. I healed very quickly, and I am much happier with the way it is now. No loss of sensitivity, and everything is awesome.
I have had sex both before and after the procedure, and I much prefer the experiences Ive had after I was circumcised.
And to all you women out there who dont even have a god damn penis, shut your mouths. This is not some religious debate, just let ppl do what makes them happy!
Unless for medical reasons, it is barbaric, sometimes the results are horrifying, preventing the victim to lead a normal sexual life, Victoria Hospitals are right in their decision, men who have had circumcision with no problems are very fortunate, this does not make circumcision acceptable. It surely cannot be natural to mutilate someones body because it was done to you.
yeah, everyone believes their side is better, frankly, I'm positive most women prefer a circumcised. But I am biased, as you probably are too.

I was cut at 18 and would never go back! Most of the foreskin fetish sites that you list spread lies! Personally I could careless what other countries/races. My boys 1&3 both got circumcised at birth as everyone of our family and friends boys were!
I wonder why a guy like you who is uncut is so worried about other's being circumcised? At your age circumcision was the norm in Auz, do you feel like the odd man out?
BTW-I just read that Auz is becoming more circ friendly again in light of all the evidence of the lower chance of acquiring STD's and HIV!

The links? Well... I can understand why people would be bitter. It's a procedure that isn't necessary, and isn't the individual's choice.
Personally, I'm circumcised, and don't really give a damn one way or the other.
I've seen the links, done the research and did my homework for a few years now on this subject. What I have found is that the majority of people are going ot go with the flow regardless of what is right or wrong. That's simple social behavior. I commend and appreciate you for trying to educate people, especially asking them to take a look before answering. But look at how many people make the effort to educate themselves. So here's what I've come to in my years on this subject. 1. Every man is entitled to his own decision about his own penis regardless of what the majority of people think is right or wrong. 2. Now that we have determined that there is NO medical reason for ROUTINE circumcision, there is no reason of have it done. This is not to say that in those extreme cases where there is a medical necessity as in a intractible phimosis, then obviously one must do what is best for the individual. But as almost all phimosis can be prevented by proper care and education, even this one issue is rather pointless. 3. Being that the American viewpoint is still held in such high esteem as far as media views go, this is going to be a long debate since most guys in america think that since they were cut, there's nothing wrong with it and there's no reason why they wouldn't continue with that thinking. There has also been an undercurrent of American women glamourizing the circumcized penis simply because that is all they know. If this was really an issue then someone along the way would have pointed out that when thing get hard, they all look the same anyway. 4. No matter how much information and proof that one has, it frankly won't amount to a hill of beans in a situation where you are talking a bunch of egotistically ignorant individuals. Please don't take this the wrong way as I mean no offence. The simple truth of the matter is that it is easier simply to think that the way we are is the best. 5. Perhaps with the new information that uncircumsized penises have a slightly less chance of contracting std's such as AIDS, maybe we're finally at a point where practicality overrulles naivety. Because the bottom line is simply the fact that there is no reason to cut of a part of the body that doesn't need to be cut of other than simply esthetics. We've ruled out Dr Kellogg's stupid idea that circumcision is going to keep boy's from masturbating (the real reason american's became so circumcision happy, think about that the nect time you have those frosted flakes) We've ruled out that there is no medical reason for routinely cutting of miles of nerves on otherwise perfectly normal babies. And now we are slowly approaching the point where this issue is a more common place topic. But regardless, it is going to be a heated issue with loud voices on both sides. The only thing we can really do is to educate those around us and perhaps start a dominoe effect of education. Then maybe our sons can live their lives without having to deal with this continued stupidity.
The poster above me mentioned "dr" john harvey kellogg and "frosted flakes" . I think about all those terrified children he "treated" (mutilated without anesthetic) every time I pass through the cereal aisle. No product bearing that hideous name will ever be in my grocery cart or my home.
"Modern doctors" are not all that much better, for the last one hundred years they have been doing "circumcisions" without pain medications because "baby boys can't feel pain", now that somebody proved that babies may actually feel pain a recent AMA survey showed that 40% of "doctors" use pain control for neonatal "circumcisions". Apparently the other 60% are still with "dr" kellogg.
Can you really trust anyone that doesn't think babies can feel pain?
why cut something away that doesn't bother anybody (unless for a medical reason)?
and that female circumsision is just plain f...ed up. i don't care who you are or what your culture tells you to do.
