well when you have a beard dont have it too long.
do it. just make sure it can fill out. i hate when young people cant fill out a beard but they still grow one.

Up to you, as long as you can really grow one and not have big bare patches like some guys. I have had one for years, like the way it looks. If you grow it all out (other than shaving your neck of course) then you can decide how you like a full beard, and if not, trying just a partial beard too--i.e. on your chin.
