Failing that i presume it is stored for a while (as mens balls get bigger if they dont have sex) and then if they have a really bad drought i suppose it is re-absorbed in one way or another.

Depends how long! After too long without release of some kind, then a wet dream is a high likelihood, or it just breaksdown. As said already it takes around 3 months to produce sperm to top level. However, it is not necessarily the case that the longer it waits the more potent or fertile it becomes. If you are looking to have a test for sperm count for example, you would be asked to refrain from any relase for at least three days, to allow sperm to build up. But sperm over 7 days old is considered to be becoming stale. So there you go, to keep it fresh and in good condition make sure it is released at least every 5-6 days at least.
