Ab exercises won't necessarily reduce fat over the abs. We can't spot reduce fat from different areas of the body with specific exercises, although that doesn't mean you can't lose fat from the abdominal area. That can happen if you reduce your overall body fat, although your genes will determine where the fat comes off. The following steps will help you get started:
1.) Regular cardio exercise, do 30 minutes to one hour (preferably) a day of an aerobic exercise to get your heart rate up, so your body can burn fat.
2.) Strength training for your entire body 1-3 non-consecutive days a week. Try reading, “Total Body Strength for Beginners” at: http://exercise.about.com/cs/exbeginners...
3.) A healthy low-calorie diet. This is a very critical part of your program. To make it work you really should:
A. Keep a food log in which you write down everything you eat or drink.
B. Use a food calculator to determine about how many calories you eat each day.
4.) Begin changing bad habits by replacing them, one by one, with healthier choices (fruits and veggies will fill you up and give you nutrients and fiber).
5.) Keep an eye on your portion sizes.
6.) Make small changes every day instead of changing everything at once.

cardio, weight lifting anything that will burn fat will do just fine. Play some sports, get out and have fun, eat healthy!
run do cardio exercise activities because they will make you lose weight, and do sit ups or crunches every day any ab workout, set yourself a rep goal and push it to the limit. People who have a beer belly or gut whatever they have 6 pack abs too its just that all the fat hides it. If you run you will lose weight and if you work out your abs they will begin to show once the fat goes away.
The best way to obtain a tone ab is to watch what you eat. You should consume about 55g of protein (based on daily value) each day to help build your muscles.
In addition you should work out your abs by doing sit ups. If you can, find an inclined sit up machine (usually at gyms) to help you tone your abs more effectively. Personally i believe the best way to do sit ups is to raise your elbows into the air and lightly clutch your hands next to your ears. As you "sit up" use your ab muscles to turn your body to the left so that your right elbow touches your left hip and back down, then do a normal sit up and back down. then "sit up" again while using your ab muscles to turn your body to the right this time so your left elbow touches your right hip and back down. Keep repeating these steps and do about 20 of them each time with 2 or 3 sets.
Tip: do not try to do them quickly. you will feel the burn if you do it at a slower pace. Also increase your rate by about 5 sit ups per set every week so your muscles continue to be challenged.
do a lot of sit-ups.
Crunches will not get rid of that fat layer.
They will only expand your abdominal area making your stomach look larger.
You need to do cardio to get rid of your fat layer.
You do have the abs, just the layer of fat is blocking them.
Running, eliptical, bike, any kind of cardio is good.
Jump rope is especially good.
Jumping rope at a moderate pace for 10minutes is like running a mile.
It also works out mostly every muscle in your body, even your abs.
