Nail Biteing?
Question:
Answers:
I had been nail biting forever as well. I asked my Doc if he knew of anything that would help. He suggested getting acrylic nails put on. They are tough and the glue they use holds tight. I went to the nail salon got some crazy looks and had a set put on. I could not chew them and when I tried to tear of strips from the side, it hurt like hell because of the way the glue was stuck to the real nail. I quit chewing after the first set had grown out to where they needed to either be taken off or replaced. I was able to not bite my nails for 9 months until I got into a very stressfull time and started biting again. I have an appointment next week with the salon again so here goes...
I do it too...and I'm 57 years old! It's not an attractive thing to do, and I mostly do it to stay awake on the freeway!!
They say it's caused by stress, and doing it is a stress reliever. Not much can help other than stopping yourself in the act, and asking yourself what's bothering you. Getting an answer from your inner thoughts will give you a way out.
chew gum
ok i know its kind girly-
but get that nail polish that tastes bad- its for people who bite their nails
nail biting is just a nabbit,it does no harm so i would not be to worried about it
Taylor B has a good idea, however this doesn't work for everybody...
I have been biting my nails for ever... I can't really remember a time when I didn't bite them. I do it when I'm stressed, bored, whatever. I've tried that nail polish that tastes bad (FYI: it's clear) but that didn't really stop me. I've tried using regular nail polish as I've had people tell me if they look pretty (IE: colored) you won't want to bite them, that didn't work either. I've tried fake nails... okay so unlike any other female that uses them, I'm utterly useless with them on... had tried them a few years back when I was still in High School and I had to get help getting dressed...so when I say I was utterly useless with them, I mean it. LOL It didn't do much for me because I then started biting off the skin around my nails...
I managed to grow them a little bit when I was around 22 and it lasted a month, then the biting began again... I hate it...hate having people look at my hands and think "That looks so horrible" or "she'll never get a man like that" or whatever. and I hate having my hands like this for my husband as he has nails...
I wish you all the luck in the world. and I will be keeping an eye on this question just in case anything comes up that I haven't tried lol. perhaps what you get suggested to you will work for me as well.
i have the same problem...but someone on here with a 'similar' problem said it was about stress. that is not completely true, i actually bite less during stress because i am so worried about other things. for me, it has become a habit...even when i don't want to do it, i do it. i become obsessed, in a sense, about getting that little bit of nail on my nail off. sometimes i bleed myself while taking too much of it off. Other people posting on here had some ideas, and i think i am going to try them all..some at the same time too...like the fake nails and that bad tasting polish, and then make them look dirty so that they look manly and not pretty. hahaha, anyways, good luck. it doesn't hurt to try out some of these huh?
I have bitten my nails for as long as I can remember. have given up trying to stop and just do it because I can and enjoy it. I don't think it is a problem
