The best way to improve any exercise, and maximize the potential gains is keep perfect form and breathing.
It doesn't matter how much weight you are benching if you are doing it wrong.
In the gym, I see so many guys grunting doing as much weight as they possibly can - but doing it the wrong way. Their muscle is getting no benefit, just forcing a push and then bouncing through the rest.
don't bench press using the bar. bench press using dumbbells. for example, use 50 pound dumbbells and if it's harder for your left side than your right, then your right side is stronger. by using dumbbells, you'll allow both sides of your chest to be equally strong. if you use a bar, then the right side may kinda push up more than the left and you would be getting more of a work out on one side rather than both

try starting with a heavyweight u can do for 10 reps---then pyramid from there
