Does pain in ribs mean there is something wrong?

Question:
I'm having some kinda muscular pain the ribs when I breath in heavily or something. I have cough and cold. Does it mean I have a tumour or something? I mean, apart from a little pain, there is nothing so serious. Should I consult a doc?

Answers:
You should contact a doctor. Your ribs can hurt for a variety of reasons but from what your describing with the pain in breathing it sounds like it's your lungs. Don't freak out, with these cough and cold symptoms its probably not too big a deal.If you let it go though you might end up with pneumonia and if that sits to long you end up with pluracy, which hurts your ribs more then you would like to find out. So don't bug but see a doctor soon.

Other Answers:
Pain is generally indicative of something out of sorts.

Could be nothing more than a lung catch.
(thats a condition where the lung outer wall catches on the interior wall of the chest, not slipping easily)
The pain often peaks at the height of inspiration and releases when you slowly exhale. A pretty common thing.
Just to be sure, get a chest xray ap and lateral.

A chest xray is a good idea, to find or eliminate possible problems. If you have been doing a lot of coughing, the answer could be that the muscles you are over using because of the incessant coughing could be objecting to the over use. You could also have pleurisy or a cracked rib. Chances are it is not a tumor, but a chest xray will help you find the answer to your problem and hopefully put your mind..and rib cage at ease.

Well, it's impossible to tell if there is anything wrong without a physical exam. You should consult a physician for any ailment that concerns you. I have a good idea of what it most likely is, but it would be wrong to diagnose you without laying eyes on you, sorry.

To be on the safe side, go get checked out by your physician. Severe difficulty breathing or chest pain, go to the Emergency Department.
