how often should you change tongue rings?

Question:
i have my tongue pierced for 3yrs going on 4, and i continue toget this white crusty buildup on the bottom ball. I don't realy sit and play with it much, so i don't know when it does this. I think its toothpaste, but not 100% sure. I change it about 1 time a month, its never gotten infected or anything, but why does it have that white stuff on it. I clean them well, but with everyone , they do the same thing. Is this normal for a tongue ring., thanks alot, B

Answers:
its just toothpaste and build up of food and stuff. Gross i know! I just change the balls. As for cleaning them, i put them in denture cleaner for a few hours and don't forget anti bacterial mouthwash such as listerine (i don't know if you have that in america, i'm in the UK) and you'll be ok.

Other Answers:
Take the ring out and throw it! Tongue is not meant for a ring. You probably have a candidiases infection. Long term irritation can even lead to cancer. Visit a dentist or a ENT doctor.

Could be residue from the last BJ you gave?
