A friend needs a root canal on one root. How painful is this, and how long does it take to recover?

Question:

Answers:
With a good dentist, a root canal is totally painless and doesn't take more than 45 mins to an hour. The recovery time is however long it takes the novicaine to wear off.

Other Answers:
C'mon, how painfull can it be - they give you anesthesia! Your friend won't feel anything physically, unless he/she has a phobia of dentists, then it all will be psychological. Recovery. takes just 2-3 hous until the numbness wears off ;)
Regular root canal is really nothing, I don't understand, why it is so feared.

Undergoing a root canal nowadays is no longer painful. This is done to kill the nerve of a particular tooth because the gums under the tooth is already infected to a point that a gangrene has developed and the tooth is already mobile (movable). But, before this procedure is done, a topical anesthesia is placed and then injected with a local anesthesia. Then, when that part becomes numb and no pain can be felt anymore, a hole up to the nerve is drilled.
