what to do if i have a lot of small pimples on my face?

Bummer! The first thing I would do in your situation would be to attempt to determine whether or not they're really pimples. Where are they located on your face? Are they limited to [a] specific area(s), or are they just random eruptions? Are they on the very surface of your skin, or do they seem to be underneath the skin? If you're sure that what you have are pimples, then I guess you could move on to the next step in the process to eliminate them.
That next step might consist of you trying to assess the cause of your pimples. This is where you carefully examine your diet, your facial cleansing routine and the products involved in it, what you've been exposed to, how often you wash your face, your shampoo, exfoliation, your facial moisturizer, your diet, how you wear your hair, what you use on your hair, any makeup products you use on your face, sunscreen, tanning lotions, exposure to harsh temperatures and climate related elements, how you touch your face, and how often you touch your face. That last part is VERY important. Do you scratch, pick, poke, squeeze, and prod at your blemishes? Lots of people don't realize that they themselves are responsible for facial blemishes simply because they touched their own face with dirty or contaminated hands and fingers. Maybe you should be washing your hands a little more if you happen to be one of those people who touches their face often. And what about your pillowcase? When was the last time you changed / washed that thing? Lots of times, dirt, oils, and other contaminants from your hair and face which are excreted during your slumber remain in the fabric and could be the cause of your blemishes as well.
There 'are' over-the-counter preparations which are designed to combat acne and deal with pimples but I think it's much wiser to first try to do all the things you can to remedy this problem at home before you go spending money on something which may or may not work for you. You might find that you need to switch to a soap that doesn't leave a residue on your face. Perhaps you're using too harsh of a cleanser on your face, so your skin is really dried out, and, as a result, has begun to over-produce oil to compensate. If you work out, and do a lot of sweating, perhaps your own perspiration is responsible for your facial eruptions. At any rate, it would be in your best interest to exercise a little trial-and-error before you go wasting your money.
For the record, I think it's best to let you know that in the process of getting your skin cleared up, your pimples might seem to get worse before they start looking like they're getting better. I don't know why that's always the way with skin irritations and other dermatological complaints, but it is. I guess it has something to do with the fact that your skin is a large membrane, and it's got to endure a lot of stuff on a constant basis. Plus, it's ever-changing.
But anyway. If all else fails, and you can't figure out what's causing these pimples, or you've changed everything you can think of, and they're still present, I would definitely recommend seeing a dermatologist or esthetist for at least a consultation session. It might be a little easier for them to determine the cause of and remedy / treatment for your blemishes. They can actually help you correctly identify if you really are dealing with pimples or if perhaps you've developed some type of allergic reaction to something you've ingested or been exposed to.
At any rate, I wish you the best of luck in getting rid of your blemishes. I hope something I've said helps you.

I think even though people say to use special products, or wash a certain way- you should see a dermatologist because I think everyones skin is different and different things work for different people.I would suggest getting a mask cream that pulls dirt out of your pores or something- my gfriend uses something but I dont know what its called- its just green and silly looking when she wears it.
(ROFL about the athletes foot sock though-hehe)
