Clinical depression? That needs to be diagnosed by a doctor.
Just temporary depression that is not medical? Try finding a hobby, making some new friends, spending time with loved ones. Things to keep you busy.
1.Sex with your significant other..alot of it too. 2.If you don't have a significant other find one. 3. If 1 or 2 don't work for you...take matters into your own hands until you find someone.
There are several things you can try. There is always going to be going to the doctor to get evaluated and be prescribed meds. You can change your diet, stay away from refined flour and sugar, and add tons of protein. Exercising regularly helps tremendously. Start taking Omega 3 capsules, like fish oil. And there is a supplement out there called 5HTP by Natrol. WOrks wonders. All these things can help, none are cure alls though. I cannot stress enough the need to be evaluated by a doctor.
Exercise.
Exercise produces endorphins, which help stabilize all your chemicals. Get lots of exercise and talk with your doctor. He may want to prescribe a medication for you if you are clinically depressed.
I suggest lots of exercise though.
Meds, seek help, talk about it.I still don't think there is an actual way to get rid of it. Just a way to make you feel better while dealing with it.
Go see a psychologist and have him/her assess your symptoms to determine if you formally meet criteria for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), or if you are struggling with less impairing symptoms. You may not need any medication.
Also, whether you meet criteria for MDD or not, the optimal treatment for depressive symptoms is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) plus medication or CBT alone. Most physicians do not know this and only prescribe anti-depressants. These prescriptions are typically made after a suboptimal assessment. Most physicians are not properly trained in assessment mood disorders. Psychologist specialize in the assessment and treatment. Try to find a Ph.D. psychologist who specializes in CBT. They can provide you with a referral for medication if it is needed. There are also a number of self help books that utilize CBT skills.
If you think you can beat it yourself, then I'd suggest getting your self as active as possible. Research suggest that increasing the number of enjoyable activities will decrease depression. Also, exercise is effective.

Clinical experience.
Talk to your doctor about it. Sometimes there's nothing you can do to get rid of it by yourself because in a lot of cases it's a chemical imbalance. Your doctor is really the only qualified person to determine whether or not you need medication. On a positive note, there are so many treatments for depression that by simply talking to your doctor about it you are well on your way to feeling better.
