You need to call around to different facilities in your area, if you have no insurance. If you have insurance, you need to contact your insurance company to see which facilities are contracted with your insurance.
If you have no insurance, look up "physicans - radiology" or "x-ray" in your yellow pages. Make sure you have a doctor's order in hand, and call around for prices. If you have the order, you can tell the facility why they are doing the scan. For example, doing a scan for blood in the urine or kidney stones will be a different procedure than a scan for abdominal pain. Then the facility can accurately quote a price to you.
Prices will vary greatly, from state to state, and even from facility to facility Our facility charges around $1350 for a CT abdomen with oral and IV contrast. (California, outpatient facility) The hospital in our town charges almost double that.
A hospital facility will charge you for a technical fee and a professional fee. The tech fee is for the service, and the prof fee is for the radiologist reading. Most outpatient imaging facilities only have one charge. So make sure you are clear about that when you get quotes. Also, most outpatient facilities will give you a larger discount at time of service if the patient does not have insurance. We offer a 20% discount if the procedure is paid in full at time of exam.
