how do you beat depression?

Question:

Answers:
It depends on the person and the severity of the depression. Myself I find a combination of things work, from giving myself more time (switch off the TV and de-stress a bit, go for a walk), eating a balanced diet, positive thinking (let yourself off the hook, don't be needlessly self-critical), light exercise (build into your lifestyle if you can, like walking places instead of driving), get lots of bright light (if you live somewhere dark, buy a lightbox - really, it sounds crazy but it really can help loads), try taking St John's Wort capsules (from your local healthfood shop or herbalist - always check the label and follow the instructions). I find 900mg a day reduces that 'knotted up' stressed feeling you get in your stomach sometimes. Above all, keep in touch with loved ones and don't be afraid to express yourself openly honestly and with respect to others. We're all human and sharing experiences, good and bad, helps to build lasting relationships which are important for all our general mental well being. Sincerely wish you all the best and good luck!

A bid hug works for me.

I do it by totally disconnecting for a while; this means at least 24 hours without a phone, tv, traffic, relationships of any kind. We all need to just "get away from it all" sometimes and we are all subjected to too much connectedness (wiring). You'll know when it's time; your mind & body just can't communicate together and you have trouble focusing. As a matter of fact, I've been feeling this way for about 2 weeks! Don't worry about hurting anyone else's feelings when you step back for a day or so.
You won't be much company if you can't feel good in your own skin!

My mid-life wisdom!

This is a good question. I am currently on medication to keep me from hitting "rock bottom". If you decide to go off your medication, don't, unless your doctor says so.

my doc put me on effexor xr and its been working great. try to think of better things when crappy stuff starts to pull you down, talk to a friend or go see a therapist. in my county the health dept offers therapy and goes by your income, maybe you should check it out. its a slow long process, pray

A combination of medication and therapy works well for most people. Try to find someone who uses cognitive-behavioral therapy.

i don't, i enjoy it.as i do when i enjoy the manic highs.
i know it's just a mood and state of mind so it's easier for me to wallow in my grief and sadness.i been through it
enough to know that it's nothing serious and i just feel like crap..as a matter of fact i just got done crying my brains out for no reason, but i feel better now.if you understand that it's just a mood and state of mind, it becomes easier to deal with..it just 'seems' like the end of the world..but it really isn't.i can deal with it, i enjoy it actually as much as i enjoy any other mood
